The Noncommercial Users Constituency (NCUC) is the home for noncommercial organizations and individuals in the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO). With real voting power in ICANN policy making and Board selection, it develops and supports positions that protect noncommercial communication and activity on the Internet. NCUC works to promote the public interest in ICANN policy and is the only noncommercial constituency in ICANN’s GSNO (there are 5 commercial constituencies). The NCUC is open to noncommercial organizations and individuals involved in education, community networking, public policy advocacy, development, promotion of the arts, digital rights, children’s welfare, religion, consumer protection, scientific research, human rights and many other areas. Mijn vakantie zit er inmiddels op. Het was leuk en vooral rustgevend, na een toch wel vrij drukke 6 maanden. Eénmaal terug aan de slag begint het zware e-mailwerk. Immers meer dan duizend e-mails wachten op behandeling en/of antwoord. Ook het nieuws uit de www-wereld is vrij belangrijk. Tal van aankondigingen en acties hebben plaats gevonden. Heel wat werk aan de winkel dus.
Een eerste belangrijk nieuws dat ik oppikte is de mogelijk nieuwe wetgeving rond het bewaren van log en emailverkeer. Minister Declercq wil zomaar even 2 jaar alle emailverkeer laten bewaren. Heeft hij dan zelf zo weinig e-mails dat hij niet beseft wat dit inhoud voor de providers ? En is zijn e-mailverkeer dan ook zo onpersoonlijk dat hij niet stilstaat bij het privacy probleem ? Tijd dus om zo spoedig mogelijk eens een meetingske te beleggen en hem op een aantal belangrijke aspecten te wijzen. Read the rest of this entry »
